General Dynamics Information Technology – Federal Civilian Division is currently looking for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to join our team in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) – Division of Emergency Operations (DEO)

Public health emergency preparedness constantly changes and adapts to prepare for, respond to, and recover from new and emerging threats and emergencies. CDC’s experience and public health expertise helps U.S. communities prepare, respond, and recover from emergencies. CDC provides guidance, technical assistance, and a range of resources to assist health departments with their strategic planning to strengthen their public health preparedness capabilities.

HOW A GIS Specialist WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Design, develop, and implement systems and databases to access and store geospatial data for emergency response activities. Assist with the security of various GeoBase data layers, as needed. Create new data layers, perform spatial analysis, identify/collect/maintain GeoBase features and online applications to support ongoing and future emergency response and data modernization activities. Coordinates with interagency partners to acquire or integrate data and digital services to develop and report geospatial analytics and visualizations. Applies graphical and ArcGIS tools and applications to develop analysis and visualization products during emergency response events. Create Maps, Charts, and compiles Incident Management Briefings and CDC Director's Briefings. Manages and maintains data from multiple sources to maintain visualizations for the EOC Video Wall and Response Dashboards. Coordinates with EOC Partners and Interagency Teams to design and produce analytics, visualizations, and static and digital mapping products. Prepare and disseminate routine, special, and ad hoc reports and briefings. Support data and visualization systems integration related to geospatial data.

This is a 100% in person position, unless otherwise determined by the technical monitor and COR

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in applying ArcGIS tools and methods in the design and product of visualizations and maps
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook Mail)
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Python, R, ArcGIS Arcade, ArcGIS Pro, and/or Tableau Ability to effectively communicate needs at all briefings to assist with operational strategy
  • Ability to identify gaps in existing resources
  • Ability to multitask in time-sensitive emergency situations
  • Strong understanding of Microsoft Power Platform: Power Apps, Power Automate Experience with basic automation (i.e., auto-generating Word documents/PDFs from Excel)
  • Experience with VBA
  • Ability to obtain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) clearance

Salary and Benefit Information

The likely salary range for this position is $66,300 - $89,700. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
